Our Story
In 2016, we had our first small garden, and it went really well. We had a lot of fun planting, harvesting, and canning our own food together as a family. That experience motivated us to consider expanding the garden and, at some point, raising our own meat. Wouldn’t it be great if we could be sustainable? This seemed to be a crazy idea as we didn’t have any experience farming and had no clue where to start.
For the next 4 years, we continued to expand and improve the garden. We learned a lot during that time and became great gardeners! The produce was so healthy and tasty, and we had a lot of good canning recipes so that we could enjoy them during the winter.
In 2020, we decided we were ready to start raising our own meat and purchased our first feeder pigs. We had no clue how to raise livestock, but, with help from other farmers, were successful. It was so rewarding to know that the meat came from healthy animals that were humanely raised. Plus, you can’t buy that quality anywhere!
We considered going bigger the following year, but we were living in a neighborhood with only 4.5 acres, and we really needed more space.
We purchased the farm in November 2021 and had no clue what we were doing. To say that we were unprepared, was an understatement. The place was trashed and disgusting! The previous owners hadn’t maintained the property for at least the last 10 years, so we had our work cut out for us.
We are continuing to improve the property and have come so far! We’re looking forward to all of adventures that go along with farming.
